Song Intel is a Chrome extension that reads the currently playing song on YouTube Music and generates AI-powered facts about it — including song meaning, credits, and fun facts — using an AI provider of your choice (Groq, OpenAI, Anthropic, or Google Gemini).
Here is exactly what happens when you click the ♪ button:
No data is sent to any server operated by Song Intel. There is no Song Intel backend. The only external request is directly from your browser to whichever AI provider you selected.
Song Intel does not collect any of the following:
Song Intel reads the song title and artist name displayed on the YouTube Music player bar. This is the minimum required to identify the song. No other page content, URLs, cookies, or user data from YouTube Music is read or transmitted.
Your API key is stored locally on your device using Chrome's built-in chrome.storage.local — the same mechanism Chrome uses for extension preferences. It is never sent to any server other than the AI provider it belongs to (e.g. your Groq key is only sent to api.groq.com). Song Intel does not have access to your key, cannot read it remotely, and does not log or transmit it anywhere.
When you use Song Intel, a minimal query (song name and artist) is sent to the AI provider you selected. Each provider has their own privacy policy:
Song Intel is not affiliated with any of these providers.
Song Intel is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect any data from children.
If the extension is updated in a way that changes how data is handled, this page will be updated and the "last updated" date will be revised.
